Sean’s First Blog
Hello there! My name is Sean Volk. I am from Valley City, North Dakota and I am a freshmen this year at Concordia.
I am majoring in Communication with an emphasis in Mass Media and possibly Spanish (it depends on the day you ask me what I’m majoring in!), and I am minoring in Film through MSUM and the Tri-College Agreement.
My favorite movie is Moulin Rouge! I know most people would not include favorite movie in a short bio, but movies play such a huge part in my life. When I grow up I want to be a movie critic for a major newspaper or magazine, eventually becoming the editor-in-chief of said magazine/newspaper.
For me, Concordia was the best fit. Not only are the programs I am studying nationally recognized, but I also have access to multiple internships and media related activities here on campus. I am involved on Concordia On-Air, the television news show that is produced here at Concordia. It is a blast!
Coming from Valley City has made me appreciate living in a small town, but at the same time I miss the advantages of living in a larger area. On a good day Valley City has 7,000 people and the coolest place to hang out is the local Subway sandwich shop. Even though I didn’t always have things to do, I loved Valley City because I knew everyone and it was a close nit community.
I am so proud to have come from Valley City, but I wanted more big-city life. Concordia was perfect for me because the college had all of the small town qualities I loved; but when you step off campus, the Fargo-Moorhead community has more than 170,000 people.
There are malls, movie theaters galore, and lots of fun places to eat. Because I chose Concordia, I get the best of both worlds
