HIP HOP Breakdown

“I am Hip Hop” became a prevalent theme during the Hip Hop Congress this past weekend at Concordia. Through the congress workshops and concerts I was able to experience a new culture and embrace it as a new part of who I am.

I attended the break-dancing workshop on Saturday afternoon and expected, if nothing else, to receive a really great workout. However, it was so much more than a work out.

The workshop started with about seven people besides Brave Monk and his Five Element Warriors, and quickly escalated to numerous other people of several ages, races, genders, talents, goals, etc.

This pic is of one of our instructors (Daylight). Right from the beginning we were told by Brave Monk – our instructor – that if we weren’t sweating, then we weren’t working and we weren’t putting ourselves into the dance. Brave Monk took us through a warm-up, some stretching, and then proceeded to teach us some basic footwork. (more…)

Art Student Show

BerriliciousStarting Wednesday untill today, all artists can submit works for the student show.  I’ve been waiting for this show since last March.  In fact, my last piece that I did, I had the show in mind while I made it.

Before that can happen I need to study for and then take a few tests. (more…)

OSCAR MANIA!!!

flustered.JPG You may say, why the long face? Well, as an aspiring film critic, there isn’t much in the cinematic world that I find unexciting; I mean I loved Gigli and Flicka! For me, there is one event that tops everything else moviedom… The Academy Awards!!! Every year I look forward to this awards ceremony with more excitement than Britney Spears leaving her rest and rehabilitation retreat! But this year, I’m flustered because so many of the big categories have no clear winners!

My Oscar fascination is perfect for film class because we actually debate what will win Best Picture. It doesn’t work as well in Spanish Literature when I should be focusing on the trials and tribulations of Juan and all I am thinking about is Pan’s Labyrinth was robbed of about 6 nominations! Building a House in Taos

Shopping for TaosIt is hard to believe that we have less than a week before spring break is here.  In just a few days, nineteen others and I will be building an adobe house in Taos, New Mexico.  (more…)
