You Can’t Dodge This!

THE Dodgeball TeamA ball whizzed past my head and I jumped over another one. As I bent to pick up a lonely rounded projectile my last teammate was eliminated, I was the last one in the game.

Soon I found myself backpedaling when suddenly a ball came out of nowhere and struck me in the chest. I was out and the game was over. But the day was not over; there was still a lot of dodgeball to be played.

This past Saturday Olsen Forum at Concordia turned into dodgeball mania. The Students in Free Enterprise hosted the 2nd annual Dodgeball tournament.

The tournament was a fundraiser for Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society. People could form a team for 50 dollars, which went towards the donation. Ten teams turned out on Saturday and they raised over 500 dollars!

I was the captain for Team Sasquatch. I got a bunch of friends together to play and we had a blast. We only won one game out of four, but it was a blast. We even had a theme song for our team, it was pretty intimidating. The tournament went all afternoon with a championship game at the end. It turned out to be a fun atmosphere and a great event.

Dodgeball is a great sport. It combines the physical skills of running, jumping, throwing and dodging flying objects of course. Teamwork is key in dodgeball. You have to work together as a team, otherwise it falls apart and you get knocked out. If you are not familiar with dodgeball, the game is pretty simple. Two teams throw balls at each other and if you get hit you are out, if you catch a thrown ball you stay in and the person who threw it is out. Dodgeball: a simple game and a ton of fun.

We played a lot of dodgeball on Saturday and it was definitely a workout. My advice is to get a group of friends together some time and start chucking balls at each other. It is a great way to get your adrenaline flowing and heart pumping. And always remember, “If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.”
