Ending on a Good Note
Whheeeeww! Although it was exhausting, Chapel Choir had a rather successful tour, and ended with a bang at our home concert last Sunday night. Wednesday we quickly loaded up the busses and headed down to Coon Rapids MN where we sang at a church service that night. Thursday we all headed over to Coon Rapids High School where we sang for two different choirs and then joined their mixed choir for a pizza party. From Coon Rapids we headed toward Lake City where we sang at a beautiful church with great acoustics. Friday morning we left Lake City and traveled to Northfield to sing at Northfield High School where Dwight Jilek (’05) conducts the choirs. After singing for one of the choirs, we enjoyed a pleasant lunch in what seemed like old town Northfield. On our way to Owatonna, Mr. Smith, our director, decided to take a side trip over to St. Olaf so that we could see their brand new chapel, and possibly even sing there. Let me tell you, the St. Olaf chapel was unbelievable! I’ve never sung in such an amazing space in my life, and I don’t know if I ever will again. After leaving St. Olaf’s campus we continued on to Owatonna where we sang in yet another wonderful acoustic space. Friday morning rolled around and the Chapel Choir was able to enjoy some well deserved time off at the Mall of America. At the close of our wonderful shopping trip we again loaded the busses and left for Mahtomedi to begin our recording session at St. Andrews Church. Two and a half hours we spent recording, but it was well worth it, as St. Andrews I’m assuming was built based on acoustics. Our concert went over well that evening along with our participation in the first two morning services. Finally we were on our way back home to Moorhead, and even the loud bus became quiet as everyone fell asleep. Like I said before, Sunday night we officially ended our tour on a good note (pun completely intended ha ha). All in all, a wonderful, yet exhausting experience. I am grateful for this whole week off of choir so I can play catch up now with my classes.
