Chillin’ With Sanctus Real

April 1st was no joke! (ha ha, get it? Ok, I’m a dork) Anyway, this amazing outreach organization called Pulse has been working with Concordia students (including me) all semester long to bring about this huge event with big bands and everything! After raising thousands and thousands of dollars from students and within the community, after a ton of prayer, Sunday, April 1, 2007 the main event came together with huge success. My job that day was to be a band runner. So when “my band” came in, it was then my job to show them around, take them anywhere they wanted to go, or go get for them anything that they wanted. The bands playing that night were Grits, Sanctus Real, and Superchick, as well as the world champion of Dance Dance Revolution performing his incredible skill. Anyway, as I’m a big fan of Sanctus Real I requested that I be their band runner. After helping set up the band’s dressing rooms as well as the stage, Sanctus Real finally arrived. We helped them unload their stuff from their trailer and then I got to show them around Memorial Auditorium and then help set up their merchandise table. Seriously, these guys are incredible! Every single one of them: Matt, Mark, Pete, Chris, and Dan. All of them were so down to earth and real, just great…and funny too! Well the big show finally began and Grits started the concert with a bang. Sanctus Real was next and totally rocked the stage like you wouldn’t believe! Matt (the lead singer) even went crowd surfing. Unfortunately, he lost both of his shoes in the process and only got one of them back after their set. Shortly after, I got a phone call saying that I needed to go get one of the vans and take Matt to Wal-Mart to buy new shoes (he only brought one pair with him). Now talk about some fun! My other friend Kate and I got into the van with Matt and Dan (one of the guitar players) and headed to Wal-Mart where Matt bought himself a $10 pair of awesome Velcro shoes. The night didn’t end there for sure, but that was the biggest highlight of my night, and maybe even one of the biggest highlights of my life. Well the whole concert eventually ended and people started going home – including the bands. It was sad to see the monster stage go down, but even sadder to say goodbye to the 5 incredible guys from Sanctus Real. They will not be forgotten, and neither will the shoe.

P.S. Matt got the other shoe back at the end of the night J
