This Wheel’s On Fire
There’s a lot I’m enjoying about my first summer in Moorhead. I’m enjoying the lilac to people ratio. I’m enjoying being able to TiVo Dawson’s Creek in the morning and watch it on my lunch break. I’m enjoying seeing a campus that isn’t coated in an inch of ice.
Wait, I’m getting ahead of myself.
I’m Hannah. And even though I’m new to the Cobblog, I’m going to be a senior here at Concordia next fall. I know I have some large shoes to fill (honestly - I’m not sure how well Josh’s height translates in print, but when we were in Louisiana our traveling evangelist friend dubbed him “Brother Tall Man.” I think he’s around 9′4″*) but by the power of Greyskull and the continued support of viewers like you, I’ll do my best.
And now, back to the subject at hand.
While there’s a lot I’m enjoying about my first summer away from home, I spent this weekend around a good chunk of the things I miss - which included a lot of driving.
I have a pretty love-hate relationship with the open road. I love driving; I hate pollution. I love driving; I hate paying for gas. I love driving; I’m not really a big fan of other drivers. Mostly, I just love powering up the stereo and belting it out like I’m in 8th grade again in front of my mirror with a hairbrush. Honestly. There’s nothing that makes me feel invisible like being surrounded by 4 panes of glass.
Forget Jordin or Blake (!!!): I’M the next American Idol. “Pitchy” is just a style of singing.
Anyway, I spent Friday night back home in Brainerd where I was able to visit my old employers (Lost Lake Lodge, represent!) and a friend who was home on a brief break from actually becoming a musical sensation (Scott’s his name, cello is his game). Saturday I drove down to the Twin Cities to see my former roommate Madison perform in “The Pirates of Penzance” at the White Bear Lake Lakeshore Players. I was also able to catch up with my former roommate Allie (that’s us three in the photo – the actress is in the middle, the theatre appreciator is on the left, and I’m on the right.) Sunday brought me back on the road, first to Brainerd, and then to Moorhead – which gave me plenty of time to catch up with my pals Beyonce, Kelly and Journey.
And now that I’m back here, I only really need one thing:
Please let it stop raining before the weekend.
* Josh is actually probably only around 6′2″. Still. Tall man.
