Guess who quit drinking Dr. Pepper!!!
Hello, my name is Sean Volk and I have an addiction to soda. Yes I do mean drinks like Dr. Pepper and Pepsi. Growing up I’ve always been a soda drinker and I never thought twice about, note the picture from my Graduation party last year. It cost 35 dollars to get in because of all the entertainment and food so my friend Shannon and I decided to get our money’s worth in Dr. Pepper. Sadly, we each had like 13 cans by the end of the night.
I read a study that there is unequivocal evidence that soda “may cause” life chaning illnesses and my world came crashing down! All I could think about was the incredible amount of soda I drink on a day to day basis; I used to have an average of 3 or 4 bottles a day! No joke! When I pulled an all-nighter working on a paper last semester, I had 4 different bottles of soda that were meant to get me through the night; they were gone at about 2:00 in the morning.
Enough finally became enough and on Wednesday May 2, 2007 I stopped drinking carbonated, caffeinated beverages and let me tell you it has been difficult (said with emphasis on each syllable)! Never before have I noticed the sheer number of advertisements on TV or in magazines. Also I never noticed that soda is what automatically comes with a value meal at most fast food places or that soda machines tend to be placed in high traffic areas.
After 3 and half weeks I can say I have been soda free! It was a little dicey at the beginning since I went cold turkey and all. For the first two days I laid in bed trying to avoid light because of my splitting headache! On the third day I went Spiderman 3 for the first time and I didn’t enjoy it as much as I would have had there been a Pepsi sitting next to me. The second week was better and now I can strongly walk past a soda machine and only be marginally tempted.
