Norway Band Tour

Hey, this is Tony B. Im a sophmore Music Major, and a tuba player in the Concordia College Band. We just got back from our International Tour of Norway. It was a blast! We arrived in Oslo on May 5th and went around the southern part of Norway. We played six concerts, in various towns around Norway one of which took place in the glass cathedral in Hammar. It was gorgeous. It was the ruins of a old catholic church encased entirely in protective windows. Along with that amazing venue, we played an outdoor concert in the city center of Voss on Siente de Mae (Norwegian Independence Day). And later that day we marched in one of the many Siente de Mae parades. Tons of people from Voss came to hear us, and the response was amazing. Overall the tour was amazing, and a great experience touring with such a closely knit ensemble.

A great deal of hiking and walking took place, but not nearly enough to take in all of the beautiful mountains and the landscape. We spent two nights in Bergen, one of the larger coastal cities and played in a large concert hall called Grieghallen. While in Bergen we also visited the house of Edvard Grieg (one of Norway’s most prolific composers.) It was a great experience as a musican. After that we had a free day to explore Bergen, which with the layout of Norwegian towns was easy to navigate. The food in Norway was amazing and consisted of a great deal of fish and different breads. Not to mention a great deal of Norwegian chocolate was consumed. The end of the trip was bittersweet, but after two weeks of touring Norway, the band was ready to depart with all of the great memories made in just two short weeks.
