~Before and after~

For all those who are used to seeing my hair long, I would like to announce that my long hair is all gone now. It’s been a while since I had a real haircut and I think I am enjoying the short hair very much. Summer started off nice and cool but as soon as it started getting hotter, I heard a voice in my head saying ‘Cut off your hair, you’ll be at least a pound and a half lighter’! And that’s exactly how I felt.

I didn’t exactly just chop off my hair for my convenience…I grew it out so I would be able to donate it for an organization called ‘locks of love’. Now this organization makes custom sized wigs for children under the age of ten, who have suffered hair loss due to chemotherapy or other cancer related treatments, free of cost! I learnt about this, from a fellow cobber who gave a speech about how she had donated 16’’ of her hair for the same cause. I was pretty impressed and figured that if I did the same thing I would be in someone’s good book. I didn’t manage to wait until my hair was long enough that I could donate 16’’ but I did cut of 10’’ off to be donated.

after   I have talked to more than a dozen cobbers who have donated their hair for locks of love. I learnt that, I don’t have to make big sacrifices to help someone out. Small things here and there on a regular basis not only encourages the people we help, to cope with their problems but it also makes us feel good about ourselves.

I am also planning to join ‘relay for life’ or the ‘campus service commission’ this fall so I can be useful to the community around me. There are several other organizations on campus that you can be involved in, have fun and make a bunch of new friends with similar interests.
