Left to My Own Devices

The Polar ExpressI’m stuck, guys.

I don’t want to leave you hanging, and I want to make sure the time we spend together each week is well worth your time. Blogging is a privilege, not a right. With great power comes great responsibility. Etc, etc.

The point is, I’m not really sure where to start this week.

I could tell the story about how I was positive my bike was stolen last week. About how when I woke up and walked out my backdoor, my shining red beacon of freedom wasn’t there to greet me. (Side note: Microsoft Word is begging me to change that last “there” to “they’re.” Wrong, Paperclip! You’re wrong!) And how when I went on a search through my garage, it wasn’t there either. And how when I got to my front yard, our neighbors “FOR SALE” sign had been moved into our front yard. And how I finally found the Polar Express strewn about my front steps, all shaken up, scared and alone. And how my roommate discovered that the same punk kids who did this, also stole our lawnmower. This story would also probably go well with a picture that I could stick up towards the top of the entry.

I could also tell my 4th of July story. About how I left my purse at the 4th of July parade and didn’t notice until the next morning when I checked my email. About how I got not one, but TWO emails clueing me into the whereabouts of my purse and how the teamwork of the MSUM and Concordia security departments saved my life or, at the very least, my identity (Seriously, thanks. Whew.) I could also chat a bit about the great time I had in Detroit Lakes at the beach, and the firework display that my roommates and some friends watched from the Town homes on campus. I could probably also mention how much I LOVE SPARKLERS and how I probably should have burnt my hand off by now after all my secret childhood unsupervised play with them (Hi Mom and Dad!).

Hey, I could even include both stories and write the whole entry with a “Morning Revelations” theme. Or a “Lost Items” theme!

Or, I could just ditch both of those ideas and chat a bit about how July has always been my favorite month, and how this year I seem to be blessed with an overload of incredible. Not only are the mainstays of my July there (the 4th and my birthday) but this month I’m also getting hit with two doses of Harry Potter, and two killer summer TV premieres (The World Series of Pop Culture and Big Brother 8). And how there is never a day more disappointing to me than August 1st, and how fast this summer seems to be going no matter how hard I try to stop it.

I mean, really, the possibilities for this entry are endless. Where should we start?
