I finished Harry Potter 7!
At 3:16 AM Sunday morning, I finished the 7th and final volume of the Harry Potter series (I was going to try to use a witty word like “septogy” for the seven book set, but I’m kind of emotionally and intellectually spent right now)!
I am a huge Harry Potter fan and I was so excited for this book! I went to the midnight opening at West Acres Mall in beautiful Fargo, North Dakota, and I realized I’m not as big of fan as I thought. One thing separated me from most of the other people eagerly waiting in line, I know deep down I am not wizard.
I’m not going to be judgmental because I love people from all walks of life, but I had my guard up around these people. Strangers in wizard costumes kept coming up to me asking what I thought would happen in the end of book and all I wanted to say was, “HEY CREEPER!, I am here to buy the book and enjoy it in the privacy of my own home. Does it sound like I want to go over alternate endings when all I really care about is whether Harry or Voldemort wins, alright!?!?” I kept this response in! I was not rude; I coyly said, “I don’t know! There is only one way to find out!” I would then chuckle but internally I was really not impressed.
As to not give away one of the most anticipated endings in the 18 years I have been alive, I will just say I loved the book and found it tremendously moving. I laughed out loud at wonderfully witty dialog. I was unable to put the book down for hundreds of pages because the suspense would have nagged at me forever (or the two minutes it took me to get another water bottle from the fridge). Also, I sobbed from roughly page 686 to around 710. I was crying so hard that it took me two/three tissues to get through each page (eventually I just put the book down so that I could calm down). Fans will not be disappointed!
Now that I’ve officially finished the Harry Potter series, I can rest easier and sleep at night. Also I can resume normal activities which my anticipation had previously rendered me unable to do, like writing this blog or reading Sold, Concordia’s Summer Read.
