To New York City and back…
I can’t believe it! It’s been an entire month since I wrote my last blog!! I don’t know how I managed to ignore my responsibility of keeping people informed about the day to day activities of cobbers??
BAD Preeti … I guess I have been busy doing a lot of fun stuff making sure I have something to write about in my blog. I haven’t been up to any mischief like I usually am. Shhh… I was in NYC for a week and it was amazing! Since moving to Moorhead, MN three years ago, I haven’t done any traveling unless going to Minneapolis counts (although I was amazed by all the tall building the first time I went there).
I used to travel a lot with my parents and church members when I was in India. I’ve been to most of the famous places in India including the Taj Mahal, some of the ancient forts and amazing waterfalls. But my trip to NYC was my first adventure in the United States of America!!
My impression of NYC when I got out of the LaGuardia airport was, YUCK! It was so dirty, loud, noisy, polluted, crowded and disgusting in general. I absolutely hated the fact that there were so many cars at the airport and SO… MANY… people. I always imagined that I would fit right into the city setting because I’ve lived in big cities in India. I wanted to fly back to Moorhead, right that very instance! It was nice to see millions of people from various ethnic and racial backgrounds living together in harmony.
One thing that did like about the city was the awesome transportation system, the subway. I stayed in Brooklyn with a friend’s family and so we were quite far away from Manhattan. Having the trains made it easier for us to get to places. We went to all the usual places that tourists go to in New York city. We went to the Statue of Liberty, Ellis island (looked at it from the ferry), the Natural History Museum, the Aquarium, Coney Island, South Street Seaport (there were tons of people there for a ‘KoRn’ concert), Ground zero, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Rochefeller center and my personal favorite, Times Square!!!
I loved NYC for all the entertainment that’s available. I would love to go visit again but I have made up my mind that I would absolutely never live in a big city.
I forgot to mention, this was also the first time I had taken a flight by myself. Not that it’s a great feat but I was pretty proud of myself for getting on the right flights and not ending up in a completely different destination (not that, that is possible).
All in all it was a fantastic experience. It was definitely the highlight of my summer. The next events that I am looking forward to are the ‘Cobber Corn Feeds’ and ‘Freshman Orientation’! will make sure to keep you informed.
Adios Amigos.
