Into The Groove
Belated Labor Day greetings, all!
I hope everyone appreciated their last unofficial weekend of summer. I, along with the rest of Concordia, celebrated the esteemed holiday by returning for a second round of MWF classes with an extra side of web work. Delicious!
Actually, my Labor Day was one of the more relaxing days I’ve had since my move back onto campus more than two weeks ago. My campus living arrangements jump-started me immediately back into student mode and, after making my move and unpacking all night, I woke up for Orientation training.
Orientation was a complete blast. I didn’t know most of my fellow volunteers, but it didn’t take long for our group to click – that’s us in our Sunday best at the Commissioning Banquet (Dr. Jolicouer stopped by our table! I swear, she looked straight at me. I’m never washing my face again.) Whether we were working at the Inforest (The info booth, with a forest theme. We had a secret mission to get the sticks we used to make our decorative trees. We left in our Cobber best as the belltower tolled thrice.), decorating for Cabaret (How much effort does it take to crepe paper Memorial Auditorium? Not much, actually.), giving out free jokes at the hotline (I’d like to thank our sponsor, Laffy Taffy, for sending us all on a week long sugar high.), seeking out freshmen with their beanies on (Megan, I’m looking at you.), learning the Orientation dance (Breathe, strech, shake, let it go.) or enjoying Shaky Mondays (Confetti!) we worked hard and laughed even harder.
I got acquainted with another great group of fellow students last weekend during our CSC (Campus Service Commission) retreat in Vergas. I knew about half of the staff, and I’m looking forward to getting to know the other half as the year progresses. And, of course, there’s no better way to get to know a new group of Cobbers than speeding down Highway 10 in order to get back in time for the Power Bowl. I can’t believe how many new people I’ve met in the first two weeks of my senior year – it’s incredible what happens when you venture outside of Olin!
And of course, there’s my new best friend, the sparkling new Anderson dining room. There’s such thing as a “Senior 40,” right?
We had our first executive staff meeting for Concordia On Air this week. I’m really pumped about our staff this year, and I can’t wait to see the turn out we get the interest meeting next week. Our staff is going to start blogging this year as well - which is good news for you, since there will now be double scoops of Hannah’s blogging wonder. You’re so welcome.
Yes, new classes are going well too. I’ve got four this semester; Christian Ethics and Theologies, Television Productions, Beginning Acting and Digital Photography. I think I should be able to handle them pretty well without totally flipping out – although it is only a week into the semester. We’ll see how good I’m feeling when December rolls around. Or when that research paper for Religion rolls around. Yikes.
