Our House is Mourning a Loss
It is really hard to lose a roommate. And I lost one. One of my best friends moved out of our house today to study abroad in New Zealand. She is going to be teaching Kindergarten there for a whole semester, which is really exciting and an awesome experience and adventure for her…but that also means that she will not be around.
Every year being in college, I have lived with only one other person (and at one point I even had a room to myself), but being a person that loves to be around others I was really excited when six of us decided to live in a house together. It was an awesome process as well; I mean we are learning what it actually is like to be on our own paying bills and being responsible for everything. So anyway, Alissa emailed me when I was in Belize this summer and said that she was going to take some classes for about a month at Concordia before she goes to New Zealand. Instantly we were all excited that she was going to come live in the house. It has been an amazing month filled with so many memories and today she left Concordia, so she may in a few days take the long trip to New Zealand.
This morning as we woke up, all of us other roommates had class, so we said goodbye we gave her a huge sign made out of butcher paper that we all signed and wrote goodbyes on it. We gave her a frame with some of our favorite roommate pictures in it. We also signed the book, ”Oh, The Places You’ll Go,” by Dr. Seuss and snuck it into her suitcase for her to find later (SURPIRSE…if you had not found it yet).
I will tell you all, it is a promise that you are going to meet people in college who are going to make a difference in your life. You are going to meet people who you will become very close with and who you will stay in contact with the rest of your life. You are going to meet people and one day you will have to part to start on new journeys that God has planned. But as this all happens, you will be left with so many memories.
Alissa Meyer we all love you so much and will miss you. We wish you the best in your new adventure and you will be in our prayers. Even though you will be in a different place, you will forever be in our hearts.
