Brilliantly Scandinavian

Uff Da! Is it possible I am still full from thanksgiving diner last week? Well if it is possible, is it healthy? I haven’t the slightest clue.img_0226.JPG
ANYWHO, I guess ”Turkey Day” (the only holiday I know of with a name corresponding directly to a food (a name like ”Turkey Day” also leaves little room for pretending that this day is about much else.)) lived up to the high standards set by its name. The peculiar thing is that I didn’t get full off of the perfectly prepared turkey or by the super scrumptious stuffing. No, I got full from a much different item: Lefse. That’s right Lefse, or as Webster’s dictionary defines it: the greatest food item ever created in the history of mankind. Ok so maybe that’s not the Webster definition, but it is mine, and that’s what counts. Ever since I can remember, whenever my family got together there was always Lefse, and I always stuffed my face with as much as possible. This Thanksgiving was no exception. Now with a love of Lefse like the one I have (and I’m sure is shared with many of you) it should be easy to understand the excitement I felt when I saw Lefse for sale at our homecoming football game. If you still don’t understand my excitement imagine the excietment felt by Tom Hanks’ character after he was discovered in the movie Cast Awat. Maybe that’s an exaggeration, but I was pretty excited.
While Lefse might not be what I love most about Concordia, what it represents to me is.To me, Lefse represents my heratige and it represents my family. There aren’t many places I can go where I share so much in common with so many different people without even meeting them. On the same note, there are not many places you can go where in an American political systems class you can get the input of liberals and conservatives, as well as, American students and students from international countries. It’s amazing to me that this school, among all the other great things, encompasses its Scandinavian Lutheran base while still having a diverse population.
On a side note, all the eating over thanksgiving break distracted me from what I should have been doing, homework. Every waking moment I have in the next week or so will probably be spent in the library. UFF DA!
