Christmas Sledding and more Christmas joyfulness!

After a stressful week of finals, I was incredibly excited to go home for a very relaxing break.  My head had been swimming in Aristotle, communication styles, interviewing, and Spanish women writers for nearly four months and I was pumped for break!  The best part of break I would have to say is the timing.  For me, break always comes at the perfect time.  Just when I feel like writing another paper will cause my hands to shake and when I feel like reading another 300 page book will make me go blind, break comes and I am rescued by precision scheduling.  I think that when whoever plans the academic calendar at Concordia lays out the semester, they keep the sanity of the students in mind.  I mean, what good would a college be if all it did was turn out hyper intelligent students who ultimately went bananas and were shipped off to the loony bin?  Answer – Not hot.

Speaking of “not hot”, I went sledding over break at my friend (and fellow Cobber) Sarah’s house.  Sarah is practically a farm girl just without the farm.  Each year her family throws a Christmas Bonanza for her friends.  This year we ate nachos and watched Elf!  Also, we sang Christmas songs!  Basically, it was a blast!!!!  When I thought the night was drawing to a close, people came out of nowhere with sleds.  I reluctantly followed because I am afraid of high places such as steep hills and also fast moving contraptions that are not motorized automobiles.  For a while I stood and watched but then my inner adventurer took over.  I hopped on a sled and went down the enormous Wagar hill.  It was a hoot and very scary because I could not stop for the life of me!  I was totally at the mercy of the sled!!!!!

Now if you think I had a good Christmas dear reader, I can tell you who else did… Britney Spears!  Not only were her children taken away after a three hour police standoff, she was also put on a three day mandatory hospital stay (polite euphemism for suicide watch).  With her career in shambles and her music becoming even more creepily synthesized, I look forward seeing what Britney will do to further damage her career this year.  My hope is she will write her brilliantly dysfunctional memoir and come out with an acoustic, early Alanis Morissette style CD to try to salvage her credibility as an “artist”.  And just think, we almost believed her little sis Jamie Lynn was going to be the crazy one this year!

Happy New Year!
