ISO on campus!
ISO is the International student organization here at Concordia College, Moorhead, MN. I was officially elected as the President of this organization in December last year. There are five of us on the executive board and we are in-charge of keeping in touch with the international students and making sure they are connected with each other and also with the rest of the campus. Since I have just started to get to know the responsibilities that go along with this position I am slightly overwhelmed. Now, on top of homework and socializing I have to organize events, conduct meetings and STUDY!!!
The first event that I am helping organize is an ‘African Extravaganza Night’. We are planning on having African food, some activities and some performances by our own African students. I am so excited about this whole event planning thing but sometimes it just gets so confusing that there is nothing left for you to do that could make it better.
The other event that we have already started planning for is the ISO festival in April. In past years the event has been modeled after a talent show but I am trying to find some ways of making it more interesting that just a plain old talent show! Last year we had some really cool dance performances from Africa and Sri Lanka.
I really like that fact that in a city like Moorhead with very little diversity I can be exposed to so many international students at Concordia. I learn so much from them about their food and culture and my favorite part their music! Last weekend we had an international potluck and people brought some very tasty food. I tried Nutella for the first time at this potluck, and it was delicious!
If any of you are interested in internationalizing yourselves, check out Concordia and its various resources related to studying abroad and meeting new people right here on campus!
