The Snowbears’ pillow fight
You wake up and clear your eyes. Stretch your legs and get out of bed; it’s a new day. You’re excited to be able to wear that new t-shirt you bought at H&M the other week since it is finally warm enough. Out of habit, you look out the window. It’s white. You rub your eyes again. It must be a dream!
Once more you look out the window. Nope, it’s really there: SNOW!! That’s what happened to me this morning. I got out of bed and found snow on the ground!! Not to worry, there wasn’t much and it’s not sticking, but this is about the second or third snowfall we’ve had and it’s not even really winter here anymore!
As my mom always says, “It snowed last night! It snowed last night! The snowbears had a pillow fight!” The only thing is, the snow bears are still having that pillow fight as it is still snowing….a little. I guess God just wanted to give me a reminder that I really do want to come home in July.
The past couple of weeks here have been great. Time filled with lazing about, reading, watching movies, hiking, jogging and travelling to Weimar with friends. Not to mention finally finishing my paper and handing it in (what a stress-reliever!).
With this near two month break between semesters, I’ve had more time to experiment cooking things for dinner. Yummy American food one normally can’t get over here like sloppy joes.
I had my roommates try them, and they were surprised at how good they actually tasted! Or maybe they were surprised that I actually could throw something like that together without having all the ingredients and having to improvise on many of said ingredients. But the dinners turn out and the roommates get fed and all is good.
The other day I got really excited at the bookstore. Thalia, the big bookstore in town, has a bin of books set out at their entrance where the books have been marked down. Out of instinct, I was looking for a good German book to read that would be interesting, but instead actually found a book in English!! How rare is it to find a book in the marked-down section? RARE!
So without reading the back cover to find out what the book was about, I bought it! Daring, I know. But I was so excited to have found a book in English that wasn’t more than €7 that I went crazy. One has to do that once in a while.
Another exciting part of being on break for two months is you don’t have to go to bed at midnight or so when you’re not tired and can stay up to the wee hours of the morning. Teresa, my roommate, and I did just that the other weekend. Midnight came around and we weren’t tired, so what did we do? Four loads of laundry. Yup!
Up and down the flights of stairs we went until about 3am and then finally settled into our pajamas and decided to fall asleep to some late-night sitcom on the television. Honestly, I have no idea how we were able to stay up until about 5am as both of us had gotten up reasonably early that morning, but we did it. Oh the joys of having wild and crazy roommates!
I wish you all a wonderful Easter holiday and hope you all don’t get snow like we have here! ![]()
