Easter Break–Pretty Okay!
So this weekend was Easter break at Concordia. Time off from school? How awesome!
The break began and Wednesday afternoon with a six and a half hour drive from Moorhead to Nebraska, and I carpooled with my roommate Lucas (who is from my hometown) and my friend Sarah (who is from a town in Iowa that was on our way). Even though it was a long drive and we were all tired, we had some pretty good conversations.
It was great to see my parents when I got home. We have a really close family, and going to school so far away makes it tough to make time for a trip home. But when I do get to come home, we all fall back into the same routine. I guess it’s tough to understand how amazing it is to come home until after you’ve left.
Once I arrived at my house, the most of the excitement was already over with. It’s true, I did go out to eat with my parents, and that was pretty neat. I hung out with some good friends from high-school, but we kept it pretty low-key. And Resurrection Sunday service at my small hometown church is always the highlight of the church year for me. But most of the time while I was home over break, I was still doing schoolwork.
I know, LAME - right?
But I had some things I needed to get a start on. Some of the biggest papers, presentations, and tests of my college career are due in the next month. So even though it wasn’t exactly the best break from school that I’ve ever had (mostly because it didn’t feel much like a break from school), It was much needed work time. I spent a lot of time researching for my “Hitchhiker’s Guide” paper (see previous blog: really, it’s consuming my life).
My parents did what they could to distract me, though. I know they support how dedicated I try to be when it comes to academics, but they bought a Nintendo Wii while I was home. I mean, come on. I brought my work home so I could avoid these kinds of college distractions. It made typing my papers a whole lot less appealing with my parents and younger sister laughing in the next room, enjoying Wii Tennis and Bowling.
But I did play a few rounds with them. We did have a really good time together, and it was a lot of fun. Going home this time was really bitter-sweet: time with family and friends, a lot of low-key excitement, a moderately productive struggle with academics. Overall, I’d say my break was pretty okay!
