ISO Festival a Success
After weeks and weeks of planning it was finally here. I have been looking forward to and at the same time nervous about April 19 since January! We had decided that on this day we (the international students) would host the annual International Student Organization festival.
We planned on having food from various local ethnic restaurants, an arts and crafts display from different countries and a cultural show of all the countries represented on campus.
I have been working with a group of five people on organizing the event and making sure that everything for the event was taken care of and ready to go. I had to make reservations for the location of the festival, arrange for food, talk to the sound and light crew so they could set up the stage and most important of all advertise the event. On Friday night I found out that I had to go pick up warmers for the food the next morning and that was the last thing I would have to take care for the event.
So on Saturday morning I drive out to the rental shop, pick up the warmers and as I leave out of the parking lot- BAMM! I ran into someone’s car parked right behind mine. Way to start the day huh?
So I apologize to the guy and give him my name and number and leave! As I am driving home I burst out crying because I was so scared to tell my parents. I started thinking if this is how my day was going to start, everything else could potentially go wrong too… I told my mom and she didn’t sound too worried so what the heck, I didn’t care either.
The rest of the day is just a blurr… I got to the event location- Memorial Auditorium at 2:00pm, started to set up food and crafts and stayed there until 5:00pm. The show started at 7:00pm and it was absolutely brilliant. I was backstage the entire time except for my Indian dance and my final closing speech. I got a lot of positive input from people about the show, and I heard cheering from the crowd and I am assuming the show was entertaining. People also like my saree- an indian outfit, that i have never worn before!
I am so glad the show is over even though I had lots of fun planning for and organizing it. I finally feel like I have time to breathe and relax and worry about other important things like homework and exams. And yes, it is that time of year when every college student is hustling and bustling trying to study for Finals. It will be finals week soon and I can’t wait for it to be May 3rd. Alright peeps, back to studying!
