bell-tower.jpg“Liberal arts” is a claim that many colleges try to boast, but only few can truly offer. In order to understand the distinction above, I think we first need to examine what is considered a liberal arts college. According to Wikipedia (a source that is reputable 100% of the time) the definition of a liberal arts education is as follows: “[A] college or university curriculum aimed at imparting general knowledge and developing intellectual capacities, in contrast to a professional, vocational, or technical curriculum.” (more…)

SUPER-FANTASTIC TUESDAY!!!

jakes-blog.jpgSuper Tuesday. I really didn’t understand what made all the pundits call it “super” Tuesday. I mean it couldn’t be all that amazing of a day could it? It was cold, dark, and snowy, not the traditional makings for a “super” day. Well, Lets just say that I learned real quickly why they call it “super”. (more…)

Sweaters?

1045.jpgSo I got up last Saturday around eight in the morning and started to get ready to work. After my morning coffee and numerous yawns I made my way over from Erickson where I live to Lorentszen where I work here at admissions.

For those of you that know the layout of Concordia, you would also know that the smartest way to get from Erickson to Lorentszen is through the skyway over 8th Street. Well when I got into the skyway I was taken aback, it looked like a scene right out of a movie. You know the one where someone wakes up, looks out the window and the sun is shining, creatures are frolicking and there isn’t a cloud in the sky, that movie.

Well as I saw all the sunshine and blue skies my expectations for the day rose, I felt like it was going to be a great day! As I kept walking in the skyway I glanced down at the street below at the clock thermometer outside of Moorhead state bank (the signs that sometimes say inspirational messages, or “we cut our interest rates” and then flash to the time). Time Management

ris-and-i-at-shaky-mondays.jpgI have an entire semester at Concordia under my belt now. It might not seem like much but the knowledge gained from that semester is much more than any other short period of time in my life.

I think that as a second semester freshman it is my duty to inform any corn seeds (prospective students) out there who don’t know what to expect when they take the plunge into college life of what exactly to expect, so I will take this chance to enlighten you.

The one thing that is going to take up the biggest chunk or your time is definitely going to be homework. I remember not completely understanding that specific aspect of college as a high school senior. I, like many others I know, skated through high school with minimal effort while still maintaining honor roll grades. (more…)

Change!

“Change”, it’s a word that anyone who pays attention to politics has heard in abundance as of late. It’s a word that won Barack Obama and Mike Huckabee the Iowa caucuses, and also lost the race for Joe Biden (my personal hero), Chris Dodd and I’m sure other seasoned vets will soon fall victim to it.

“Change” is also a good word to describe the transition from Christmas break to Spring semester here at Concordia. While this context is not directly related to the campaign, it is related to my life. The hardest part may be the fact that now I actually have to get up at a reasonable hour, get ready right away, and become a productive member of society.

The meaning of “productive” is another thing that changed from break to now. During break being “productive” ranged from sitting around watching the amazing selection of programs available to those of us who don’t have cable, to volunteering for political campaigns (Al Franken’s most notably), to jumping off the couch right before your mom gets home so you can pretend to be “productive”.
