Life After Graduation

Me in Chicago

Greetings Concordia College!

A lot has happened since graduation six months ago. It is amazing how fast time seems to go. In May I traveled to Europe with a good friend. During our 24 day journey we hiked and camped near the German and Swiss Alps, relaxed on the beaches of the French Riviera and experienced the rich culture of Ireland. The realization of graduation had not hit me yet.

I returned home to spend a summer at camp. It was a great summer out on the lake. After camp I had a week to get ready to move to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for graduate school at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. It finally hit me that I would not be returning to a place I called home for four years, Concordia.

Life away from Concordia is different, new, hard in many ways and exciting. After two months in graduate school I have finally settled into a routine and feel comfortable with my surroundings. I am in the master’s program in the communication department at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee.

The program is quite intense with a lot of work to keep us young scholars busy. The faculty here is very helpful and highly respected in their field.

In addition to being a student I am a teaching assistant for the intro to interpersonal communication course. I teach three sections of 22 students twice a week. The first class was definitely an overwhelming experience. All I could think was, “I just graduated five months ago and now I’m teaching a college course!”

It was a sobering feeling. After getting past the first week I was thankful for my position as a teacher. Teaching has been a lot of fun and I could see myself teaching in some capacity in the future. (more…)

Relay for Life

Cobber Nation at Relay for LifeAt 4:30 am about 60 tired people gathered to celebrate the accomplishments of a successful event. This was the closing ceremony to Relay for Life, an event sponsored by Concordia for Moorhead Colleges to raise money and awareness for the American Cancer Society. It was a great event for a great cause and we had a ton of fun too. (more…)

Twins gameThe only thing that could have been more disappointing about last night’s Twins game was if we were sitting outside. It was cold out and sitting outside would have been miserable.

Lucky for us we were inside the giant bubble called the Metrodome. In a few years the Twins will play baseball outside, like the game is supposed to be played.

I am excited for the new stadium, but on freezing cold nights when we are losing to the Yankees, I don’t mind being inside.

Easter break was great! I was able to catch up on sleep. One night I slept almost 11 hours! I have not done that in a long time. I was able to hang out with the family and my brother.

Church was really good on Easter Sunday and then we had a great lunch over at my Grandparents’ house. Monday was a fun day too. I went to lunch with some friends and then a bunch of people from school went to the Twins game. (more…)

New Snow at ConcordiaAs I walked out of my apartment Tuesday morning I was greeted with a dumping of snow. After I shoveled out my car I headed to school for the day. Back in the winter wonderland I suppose. We got about six inches overnight and it continued to snow lightly throughout the day. I think the Easter bunny may have gotten buried the snow this year. Beans Across the Street…

Cori and Heather at Selah'sThe smell of sweet coffee aroma fills the air as you sink into a comfy couch. Soft music and decorative lighting fill the drapery walled rooms.

These are the sights and sounds of Selah Coffee House. Located only a few blocks from Concordia, Selah is the perfect place for a study session.

Last night I went to Selah with a few friends. My friend Heather was working as well (She is in the pictures).

Selah is located in an old house on 8th Street in Moorhead. You walk into the entry room on wooden floors to the smell of coffee. The small counter offers a variety of sandwiches and snack foods. Usually, there is only one person working. The workers are very kind and helpful.
