no socks for cobbers!

Well, just as my lovely decorations in our floor bathroom tell us: “Spring has Sprung”. That said I have found that Concordia students probably wanted the spring to come so badly that we willed this wonderful weather to stay in Fargo-Moorhead. On both Monday and Wednesday i received nearly frantic phone calls from my parents egging me on to tell them how much snow we must have gotten in FM. They were quite disappointed to hear my calm voice say “its sunny here, I don’t know what your talking about”. Even one of my friends attending school in the cities wondered why she had an extra depressing Monday full of snow whereas I just had a regular old Monday.

flip-flops.jpgThis said Cobbers everywhere seem to be embracing the warmer weather like no other. The bikes that sat frozen on the racks for months have come out of hibernation and shorts and t-shirts are being spotted also. Although we know that it is only spring, Cobbers are so excited that we are embracing it as summer. Flip flops are here to stay people, and they are a dime a dozen so we will be wearing them everyday, rain or shine. Why you ask? Well, because sometimes the smallest things make the biggest difference. Make the most of this last month however you can :)

What a weekend!

030.JPGWOW. Coming back from break was like a windstorm, of academics that is. Now all I can remember is a blur, my family and friends that occasionally received phone calls assumed that college had eaten me or I simply fell off the side of the planet.

Not so much as an e-mail, but they kept faith I guess. I love (no not really) coming back on Monday’s which are just jam packed regardless of the academic part being done by afternoon. The following days were about the same and the weekend following was about to be the same.

Luckily we did so much in class that week I got back that I had most of what there was for homework done early. So….I finally worked out the details and made my first trip to Concordia’s Language Villages. I had been planning on that weekend for awhile and it was an experience and a half. (more…)

Books. Very important you would think (and you are correct). We all try to mentally prepare ourselves for a swift kick in the pocket book upon our first semesters purchase, and as I like many others, stood in line for just some small things I watched other fellow freshman trying to adjust to the weight of the books. The pre-med majors better start hitting the gym I thought and also considered how the weight of my tiny summer’s work paycheck compared to the novels, guides, and texts that I would be trading it in for.034.JPG (more…)

Back to the daily ground

Well the strong have returned from break, and made it alive through their first week back at Concordia. It feels good to be halfway done with the whole first year experience and I’m looking forward to freely choosing all me own classes next semester. Christmas break was nearly perfect:024.JPG

I spent time with the friends and family that meant a lot to me, went sledding, shopping, sleeping in, worked a little to earn some money, and just enjoyed not having any homework related obligations. This years Christmas included even more cobber clothing than usual, but everyone looked great! Finals went fine and even though I was back home before most of my friends I found time to just relax with my small family. I had just enough time at home before the real holidays came and then headed back for the start of a new semester. If break were to be a week longer, I think it just would have been even harder to come back to campus.

I have this feeling that this semester is going to fly by, almost even faster than the first because of fewer breaks. Now that everyone seems to have the hang of things, we are ready to prove ourselves and show our abilities. It seems that I’m so excited for the future and what’s to come that I feel like I’m in an in-between stage. Maybe my excitement for the years to come is what makes the year seem to really fly by. Best of luck to everyone this next semester, I have a feeling that it will be life-changing for all of us.

grinch.jpgAfter returning from Thanksgiving break it seemed like everyone on campus was suddenly hit with a ton of bricks as we were swept back into the academic world and the stressful weeks to come before another nice long, and much needed break. I began to see more frequently the homework wars break out. If you don’t know exactly what I mean here is an example:

Boy 1: “I have three papers due next week and a test tomorrow.”

Girl 1: “Well that’s nothing! I have two research papers due, one reflection, a power point speech and three tests.”

(apparently Boy 1 has been topped and ironically the Girl 1 wins the sympathy argument)

Lucky for my my ten page research paper is currently ten pages and with that and another paper out of the way by next week, I think I will be okay. I’m being optimistic and the weeks are already flying by. (more…)
