Making invitations can be a lot harder than you think. The entire last week I have been trying to work together with my advertisement committee for the upcoming ISO festival to design an invitation that we can send to faculty, staff, and students on campus. I realized that a person has to be very creative to come up with some cool design for the cover of our invitations.

Easter Break!
April 10th, 2008
Last week was pretty eventful when we started off. I was feeling great on Monday. I didn’t have any exams that week, not too much homework or anything to be worried about. Tuesday rolled around and I realized I was getting sick and I needed a cure, Fast! I thought it would just roll away and I would be fine but no I was so sick the Wednesday morning that I decided it would be best not to come to school.

Thursday and Friday I continued to be very sick. I had the worst of headaches because of my sinuses; I had lost my voice, my body hurt from not being able to sleep two nights in a row. Just when I thought this couldn’t get any worse, Friday rolled around and I decided it was time to go to the doctor. I was so sick that I was afraid to drive myself and thankfully since I live in Moorhead with my parents, my dad took me to the clinic. They kept us waiting for two long hours. I saw the physician for a brief three minutes and then the nurse came along and wanted to do a flu test on me. She said it would be slightly uncomfortable and asked me to stick my tongue on the roof of my mouth. Then out of nowhere she stuck a huge cutip up my nose and I couldn’t scream because my tongue was stuck! ARGH!!!
I don’t think I will ever believe anyone if they said what they were about to do was going to be slightly uncomfortable. I felt better just after seeing the doctor. He gave me some allergy medication and cough syrup and said, “Preeti, you have a viral infection, there is nothing I can do that will make you feel soon, you’re sickness is going to last for at least another 10 days”. And he wasn’t lying. I am still feeling slightly sick and praying that I will be better very soon. I did feel a lot better on Easter Sunday and when we were in church, I remembered that I was sick during the Christmas Eve service too L. I loved our service, it was short and sweet. For lunch my mom made some delicious stuffed Indian rotis (they are kind of like tortillas). And I slept through the rest of Sunday and half way through Monday.
The rest of Monday I spent thinking about my upcoming week and all the homework I had to do to make up for my week.
Trip to Minneapolis Over Spring Break
March 27th, 2008
Most people chose to go to a warmer place over spring break but I chose to drive to the cities with a few of my international friends because that was the only trip I could afford. We left Moorhead on Saturday morning. My mom made us some very delicious pancakes and we headed out. An hour or so later, we came by Freeport - a very small town - and spotted a really pretty church in town.We decided to get off the highway and go check out the church. We didn’t however get to go into the church because someone was getting married and we decided it would be rude if we interrupted the wedding just to go see the church. We decided to get back on our way to the citied. We got there around 2:30 p.m. and went straight to our friend’s apartment that we were staying with for the weekend. We hung out there for a little bit and then went out to eat EGYPTIAN food. It was awesome. Halfway through the meal, Naren told us that the buffet cost $25. Even though I did not believe him I think I lost most of my appetite. Then he took us to an Indian grocery store and I was so excited/ surprised to see all these Indian people in one place and hundred of Indian movies available for rent. That night Naren and Buddhinie made us some really delicious Sri Lankan food. The next day we went to see the St. Paul Cathedral, it was absolutely stunning. The interiors were engraved with lots of writing, most of which I couldn’t figure out. There were beautiful stain glass paintings on every window of the cathedral. That night I tried ice skating for the first time ever. I was very scared to put on the skates but I was surprised I could actually stand up without having to hold on to anything. (more…)
Peace Prize Forum!
March 12th, 2008
Last week Concordia College hosted the 20th Annual Nobel Peace Prize Forum on our campus.
The event is hosted alternating between five Norwegian Lutheran colleges of the upper Midwest including Concordia, St. Olaf, Luther, Augsburg and Augustana.
This year we had the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Dr. Mohammad Yunus gave the key note address. We also had Jeffrey Sachs and Greg Mortenson, both actively involved in making our planet a better place to live for all mankind.
Out of all the sessions we had, I really liked the world café where we got together with four people and discussed poverty and ways to alleviate poverty. Every session I went to was informative and gave me simple advice on how to cautiously view the world around me and how to give equal opportunity to all people.
I met people from all the other colleges and from around Minnesota. I also met with Dr. Yunus. I was so excited to meet him that somehow I lost my train of thought…and managed to look like a complete idiot and felt like one too! (more…)
What do I really want to do?
March 5th, 2008
My mind has been clouded with one and only one concern, what do I want to do with my life. I have been trying to figure out what other things I could do with a biology and chemistry major. I have always wanted to be a doctor but lately it just doesn’t seem like it’s the right fit for me. All the studying, the residency and being on call on nights and weekends after all that hard work just doesn’t feel right to me. I feel like I should find something that I am interested in and will be for the rest of my life. (more…)
