After a stressful week of finals, I was incredibly excited to go home for a very relaxing break. My head had been swimming in Aristotle, communication styles, interviewing, and Spanish women writers for nearly four months and I was pumped for break! The best part of break I would have to say is the timing. For me, break always comes at the perfect time. Just when I feel like writing another paper will cause my hands to shake and when I feel like reading another 300 page book will make me go blind, break comes and I am rescued by precision scheduling. I think that when whoever plans the academic calendar at Concordia lays out the semester, they keep the sanity of the students in mind. I mean, what good would a college be if all it did was turn out hyper intelligent students who ultimately went bananas and were shipped off to the loony bin? Answer – Not hot. (more…)

My evening with Kernel!
December 6th, 2007
Last week, I was lucky enough to spend an evening with Concordia’s wonderful mascot Kernel Cobb. Kernel is the most delightful piece of corn I have ever had the pleasure of knowing! For any of you ladies out there looking for love in fields of corn, not only is he charming and witty, he loves kids so he is a real catch. I accompanied Kernel around campus for the Christmas at Concordia event and I had the time of my life.
For the evening, I was the official Kernel Wrangler meaning I helped Kernel into the elevator, through small doorways, and stay away from mean children looking to de-mask the mascot. This sounds like an easy task, but it for real was not. Because Kernel has such big feet, it is difficult for him to walk up stairs and we always took the elevator. Every so often I worried that the door would shut on Kernel as he entering or exiting the elevator. As for doorways, they should be bigger because they are not accommodating to pieces of corn of all shapes and sizes. (more…)
Orientation Committee 2008!
November 27th, 2007
Attention all 2008 high school seniors, you all will have a wonderful freshmen Orientation! I say that with confidence because I am on the 2008 Orientation Committee!!!
After a lengthy application process and an intense interview, I was offered the position of Special Productions Co-Coordinator.
Having been an Orientation Leader and someone who loved his Orientation experience, I feel that it is important to share my passion for the program with others and I knew the best way for me to do so was to serve on the committee. I am so excited to work with the wonderful people on the committee to produce the best Orientation event ever.
We had our first meeting as a group the weekend before Thanksgiving, so that shows you how much preparation goes into planning a large event like Orientation. The group is really awesome because everyone is so interested in creating the best event possible and we are not afraid to share our thoughts with the rest of the group. I’m really excited for this experience if you couldn’t already tell. (more…)
My Weeknight Excursion to the Valley City Subway
November 20th, 2007
Last week, my good friends Signe, Shannon, Melody went home with me to Valley City, ND to see the play my high school put on! The VCHS Drama department did a great job with their production of “Anything Goes”. Because of my close relationship with the drama department and my high school paper, I am writing a mini-review for my high school paper! It will be a lot of fun and I am honored that I was asked to do it. I love going back to see the shows because I was the student director and mentor for the junior high plays while I was a high school student. It is great to see all of the 7th and 8th grade kids that I worked with, grow up into seasoned performers! Warm Fuzzies! (more…)
Kelly Nervick’s Birthday Fiesta as Experienced by Me!
November 14th, 2007

Kelly Nervick, one of my fellow bloggers, is a very good friend of mine. Recently it was Kelly’s Birthday and I was lucky enough to get a VIP invite (Kelly asked me in person and not via Facebook!) to one of the hottest tickets in town!!! In the picture is Kelly’s friend Katie, Kelly Nervick the Birthday Girl, ME!, and our friend Joanna!
Kelly’s party at Chili’s was so much fun, but that night I realized something really cool about College. Unlike high school, you don’t just hang out with people in your own grade, you hang out with everyone. (more…)
